Leucidal® SF Complete is a probiotic-based preservative ingredient created by the fermentation of Lactobacillus and Cocos nucifera. Lactobacillus is one of the microorganisms used to produce fermented products such as sauerkraut and kimchi, a Korean dietary staple, from cabbage. Like many members of the lactic acid bacteria family, Lactobacillus is capable of restricting the growth of other microorganisms by acidifying its environment and producing novel antimicrobial peptides. These peptides, known as bacteriocins, are capable of providing antimicrobial protection. Cocos nucifera oil (coconut oil) has been traditionally used to treat skin disorders, yeast infections, ringworm, and even athlete’s foot due to its natural antifungal activity. It works by disrupting and destroying their cellular structures. During the fermentation process, natural phytocompounds and lipopeptides from coconut are harnessed to produce this novel antifungal material.
