RESURRECTIONbeauty Recipes

Most expensive, designer skin care lines consist of the SAME basic active ingredients, just altered slightly in their amounts and put into different bases to create different products.  And a lot of products contain mostly water.  RESURRECTIONbeauty takes the guess work out of ingredients.  You will never find parabens, phthalates, or other controversial ingredients listed on our labels.  And if you enjoy mixing up your own concoctions, just a few basic ingredients and bases will have you expressing your creativity, saving money, and feeling good about what’s going on your skin!  It’s fulfilling and fun!

These recipes are provided for your convenience but do not substitute proper research on your own part to ensure that you understand the ingredients you are using and how to properly formulate with them.

Weight measurements for these recipes have been converted to teaspoon measurements for your convenience HOWEVER teaspoon measurements ARE NOT as accurate.  Some spoon sets completely vary from others.  THE MOST ACCURATE WAY to formulate your own products is by weighing out each ingredient (with a gram scale) according to the percentage of the formula you desire to attain.  If you are having trouble with a recipe or getting a powder to dissolve properly, it may be due to measurement inaccuracy or mixing technique.  Contact us right away (before you throw anything away) if you need assistance troubleshooting your creation!

Note: Serum recipes should be SHAKEN in a covered container for best mixing results.  Vigorous agitation is needed to dissolve the powder.  Stirring will not work well!

Note:  If the stem of your treatment pump becomes clogged due to mixing, simply remove it and rinse it under warm water.  If it is still clogged, pump it while under water and that should do the trick!

Note:  If your face appears too “shiny” for your liking, try reducing the amount of glycerin you’re using in the recipe by replacing the amount of glycerin with water or hydrosol.

Water Options:  You can substitute just about any water based ingredient for the water portion of these recipes.  This is what’s really fun about making your own products!  Use your imagination!  Just remember…ANY TIME you use water in a recipe, you must use a preservative!  Our Leucidal® Liquid SF and Leucidal® SF Complete are great natural preservatives for your small batch recipes.  When you don’t use a preservative, you MUST refrigerate your creation!

Hydrosols are the foundational water based ingredients that make these recipes amazing, unique and effective!  While our line is still in development, RESURRECTIONbeauty currently carries two hydrosols:  Rose and Witch Hazel.  These hydrosols already contain a preservative so if you are making one of our recipes for yourself with them, you may not need to add an additional preservative.  If you choose a different water based ingredient, you will need to add a preservative or use refrigeration.  Some water based liquid ideas you can try are:

-Hydrosols - RESURRECTIONbeauty’s already contain Leucidal® SF Complete!

-Witch hazel - RESURRECTIONbeauty’s already contain Leucidal® SF Complete!

-Distilled water

-Herbal teas

-Other gentle toners

Note:  Small batch recipes are recommended so you can use your creation up in a timely manner.  Even when using a preservative, please store unused items in the refrigerator to ensure their freshness and longevity.

Also Note:  ALWAYS use stringent sanitation practices when formulating your own products.  Preservatives do not substitute for improper sanitation and/or product handling.

A note on our preservatives: Our preservatives require a specific pH (listed on the bottle) to work effectively.  You may need to add a very small amount of citric acid (or some other pH lowering additive) to bring the pH down into the proper range to ensure the preservative will work properly.  Your own testing is recommended to ensure stability.

SERUMS

Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) Serum with 10% Glycerin

Note:  L-ascorbic acid should NOT be mixed with any other ingredients (except Hyaluronic Acid serum-see combination serum below) unless you have done your research to verify compatibility.  It is too acidic and will cause other ingredients to break down, change into other chemicals, or be ineffective altogether.  Apply this serum after cleansing with RESURRECTIONbeauty’s Facial Cleanser, then wait a few minutes to apply other cosmetic layers and moisturizers.

If you’ve been using Vitamin C on your skin, your skin may be ready for the 20% LAA concentration right away.  If you are new to using Vitamin C serums, or have sensitive skin, you will want to begin with the 5% LAA concentration, and each week slowly increase the concentration if your skin doing well and tolerating the concentration.  This is a PURE powder and is very strong!  Always test do a small test patch before applying to your face.

Apply this serum after cleansing with RESURRECTIONbeauty’s Facial Cleanser with Vitamin C or Rhassoul Clay Facial Cleanser recipe, then wait a few minutes to apply other cosmetic layers and moisturizers.  This serum can be used morning and evening, on the face and/or anywhere on the body that benefits are desired.

5% solution

1/8 tsp Ascorbic acid powder

2 1/8 tsp water (or other compatible water based ingredient)

1/4 tsp RESURRECTIONbeauty Glycerin w/ Botanical Extracts

10% solution

1/4 tsp Ascorbic acid powder

2 tsp water (or other compatible water based ingredient)

1/4 tsp RESURRECTIONbeauty Glycerin w/ Botanical Extracts

15% solution

3/8 tsp Ascorbic acid powder

1 7/8 tsp water (or other compatible water based ingredient)

1/4 tsp RESURRECTIONbeauty Glycerin w/ Botanical Extracts

20% solution

1/2 tsp Ascorbic acid powder

1 3/4 tsp water (or other compatible water based ingredient)

1/4 tsp RESURRECTIONbeauty Glycerin w/ Botanical Extracts

Directions:

1.)  Add water ingredients, Glycerin with Botanical Extracts, and Ascorbic acid to your CLEAN and DRY 1 oz. Amber Glass Treatment Bottle.

2.)  SHAKE it vigorously until the powder is completely dissolved.  (For 20% solutions, this may take up to 4 minutes.)  Lazy Method:  Shake it vigorously for a minute.  Set it aside while you go do something else.  Come back later and shake it some more.  Do this until there is no powder left.  If there are a few crystals left at the bottom, this is okay.  They will dissolve.  If there are A LOT of crystals left and you’ve been shaking a while, you may not have added enough liquid.

NOTE:  Glycerin in this recipe is optional.  BUT if you left out glycerin, you MUST add water for that portion of the recipe or the concentration will be too high and the crystals may not dissolve properly.  If you’ve checked everything and still have crystals, please give a call so we can help you troubleshoot the problem!

3.)  Adjust pH using Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), if necessary. (Some people can tolerate the acidity of this formula, others may not.  If you are not sure how your skin will react to the acidity, be safe and keep some baking soda dissolved in water nearby.  Tingling may be expected once the solution is applied, but if it begins to feel uncomfortable, rinse your skin using the baking soda water to neutralize the acid.)

4.) Product can be used immediately on the face or anywhere on the body where benefits are desired! (Discard any unused mixture once it has begun to turn a yellow color (about 5-7 days) and wash bottle and pump thoroughly with soap and water before next use.)

-This powder should be dissolved in water (or other compatible water based ingredient) FIRST before adding other ingredients or adding to other products. This powder will not dissolve in oil based ingredients or products.

Modifications:

-This recipe can be made with water only by substituting water for the amount of glycerin in the recipe.

Hyaluronic Acid Serum with Glycerin

 (THE SERUM BASE RECIPE)

Many people like to make a large batch of this recipe and store it in the refrigerator.  Small amounts of this BASE can then be taken from the batch and powders can be added directly to that smaller portion.  This method (See Combo recipe below) is a faster way to make your weekly serums.

How to use this serum base:

-Use as a serum in the morning and evening (just as it is) before applying Resurrection Beauty’s facial moisturizer base for the ultimate hydration experience!

-Add serum base to shampoo and/or conditioner for added hydration in your hair!

-Use as a BASE SERUM RECIPE and add other skin loving vitamins, peptides, etc., to it to create your own personalized serum.

-Mix a SMALL amount of the BASE SERUM RECIPE with some hydrosol and add to RESURRECTIONbeauty’s Facial Moisturizer Cream Base for a really amazing customized moisturizer!  (Our Facial Cream Base already has an emulsifier so it will blend well with water ingredients you want to add to it.  Just remember to add a preservative to whatever water ingredient you put in it, if you aren’t using our hydrosols!)  Now…on to the recipe!

1/4 tsp  Glycerin with Botanical Extracts

1/4 tsp  Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid Powder)

30-60 drops Leucidal® Liquid SF (use Leucidal® SF Complete if using this base with L-ascorbic acid powder)

1 oz. Hydrosol and/or distilled water

(Omit Leucidal® SF if using RESURRECTIONbeauty’s hydrosols (if using as 50%-100% of the liquid in the recipe) that already contain this ingredient.)

Directions:

1.)  Add Leucidal® Liquid SF and Glycerin to the CLEAN and DRY 1 oz. Amber Glass Treatment Pump.

2.)  Add half of the liquid (to about 1/2 of your 1oz. treatment pump bottle) and mix with the glycerin.

3.)  Add the Sodium Hyaluronate powder to the bottle.

4.)  Cap the mixture and shake it vigorously.

5.)  Add the rest of the liquid (to the curve just below the neck of the bottle).

6.)  Cap the bottle and shake well.

7.)  Let sit (for about 4 hours) until all of the powder appears to have absorbed into the liquid to form a gel.  Additional mixing and shaking may be necessary throughout the process.

Without preservative, (using distilled water) this mixture can be stored in the refrigerator up to two weeks.

WITH Leucidal® Liquid SF, this mixture can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 months.

If you are making larger amounts as a SERUM BASE, store any unused portion in the refrigerator anyway (even if using preservative) to ensure the longevity of the serums you're preparing from this base.

-  This recipe can be made without glycerin.  Just follow the directions omitting the glycerin (there will just be more hydrosol or distilled water in place of the glycerin to keep the same concentration).

Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid Serum Combo

There are two methods to making this serum.  Method 1 puts it all together from scratch.  Method 2 uses THE BASE SERUM RECIPE.  Most people prefer the convenience of Method 2.  Use what works for you!

Method 1: Combination Serum with 20% Vitamin C

Makes 1 oz. of serum.  This may be too much for most people to use up within 5-7 days.  If you prefer this method and don’t want to throw a bunch away at the end of the week, put it ALL OVER you body to use it up faster.  To make smaller batches, use method 2 below.

1/4 tsp Glycerin with Botanical Extracts

1/4 tsp Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid Powder)

1 1/2 tsp Vitamin C Powder (L-Ascorbic Acid)

30-60 drops Leucidal® SF Complete broad-spectrum preservative

Distilled water up to 1 ounce

Directions:

1.)  Add Glycerin to the CLEAN and DRY 1 oz. Amber Glass Treatment Pump.

2.)  Add a small amount of water (to about 1/4 bottle full) and Leucidal® SF Complete, and mix with the glycerin.

3.)  Add the Sodium Hyaluronate powder to the bottle.

4.)  Mix well with the stem of the treatment pump cap first, then cap it and shake it.

5.)  Add the Vitamin C powder.

6.)  Add the rest of the water (to the curve just below the neck of the bottle).

7.)  Cap the bottle and shake well.

8.)  Let sit (for about 4 hours) until all of the powder appears to have absorbed into the liquid to form a gel.  Additional mixing and shaking may be necessary throughout the process.

-This mixture should be discarded after 5-7 days or when it begins to oxidize (turn yellow).

Method 2: Combination Serum with 5%-20% Vitamin C

Prepare the recipe for Hyaluronic Acid Serum (THE SERUM BASE RECIPE) above but using Leucidal® SF Complete instead of Leucidal® Liquid SF.  The prepared Hyaluronic Acid Serum will be the total liquid part of your recipe.  You will simply take small amounts of this each week and put the vitamin C powder into it to prepare the combination serum. You can make as much Hyaluronic Acid Serum as you will use for one month and keep it stored as your stock in the refrigerator.  Most people feel this is a more convenient and cost effective method for preparing the combination serum because it makes smaller batches.  Choose the recipe below for the concentration of Vitamin C you wish to prepare.

Combination Serum with 5% Vitamin C

1/8 tsp Ascorbic acid powder

2 3/8 tsp Hyaluronic Acid Stock Solution (The Serum Base Recipe from above.)

Combination Serum with 10% Vitamin C

1/4 tsp Ascorbic acid powder

2 1/4 tsp Hyaluronic Acid Stock Solution  (The Serum Base Recipe from above.)

Combination Serum with 15% Vitamin C

3/8 tsp Ascorbic acid powder

2 1/8 tsp Hyaluronic Acid Stock Solution  (The Serum Base Recipe from above.)

Combination Serum with 20% Vitamin C

1/2 tsp Ascorbic acid powder

2 tsp Hyaluronic Acid Stock Solution  (The Serum Base Recipe from above.)

Directions:

1.)  Place the Hyaluronic Acid Stock Solution (The Serum Base Recipe from above) into your CLEAN 1 oz. Amber Glass Treatment Bottle.

2.)  Add the Vitamin C powder.

3.)  Using the stem of your bottle stir the powder into the gel.

4.)  Cap the bottle and SHAKE vigorously to dissolve the powder.

-Sometimes it takes a few minutes longer for the Vitamin C powder to dissolve into the gel vs. in plain water, because the gel is a little thicker.  You can let this solution sit and shake it once in a while until it’s dissolved.

-Product can be used immediately on the face or anywhere on the body where benefits are desired!

-This mixture should be discarded after 5-7 days or when it begins to oxidize (turn yellow).

Retinol and Hyaluronic Acid Serum Combo

1 ounce (approx. 2 Tablespoons) Hyaluronic Acid Stock Solution  (The Serum Base Recipe from above.)

9 drops Retinol Liposome Cosmetic Additive (1% use rate example)

Directions:

1.)  Place the Hyaluronic Acid Stock Solution (The Serum Base Recipe from above with Leucidal® SF Complete) into your CLEAN 1 oz. Amber Glass Treatment Bottle.

2.)  Add the Retinol Liposome Cosmetic Additive.

3.)  Cap the bottle and gently turn the mixture back and forth until the liposome is evenly distributed into the gel.

-Product can be used on the face or anywhere on the body where benefits are desired!

-Night time use is recommended.

Sunburn Alert: This product contains Retinol that increases the skin’s sensitivity to the sun and increases the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product.

MASKS

Rhassoul Clay

RESURRECTIONbeauty’s Rose hydrosol, RESURRECTIONbeauty’s witch hazel (astringent, soothing), freshly brewed teas (astringent), milk or yogurt (lactic acid), honey (moisturizing) and/or avocado (vitamins and oil) can all be used within these recipes to create different benefits.  Great benefits can be achieved using just water as well!  Use your imagination and have fun!

Facial Cleanser

1-2 tsp Rhassoul Clay

1-2 tsp (or to desired consistency) distilled water (or other water based ingredient)

Mix together in a dish or in the palm of your hand.  Apply to your face and massage, just as you would a regular facial cleanser.  Rinse well with water.  This recipe works great for a facial cleansing routine where makeup removal is not needed, or makeup has already been removed.

Variation:  For dry skin, add a small amount of Gifts of the Magi Argan Oil with Frankincense and Myrrh to add extra moisture.

Facial Mask

2 TBSP Rhassoul Clay

2+ TBSP (or to desired consistency) distilled water (For a special treat, substitute water with Rose Hydrosol instead!)

Mixed together in a dish to form a silky paste. Apply to face and let dry before washing off.  Prepare more if using as a body mask.

Variation:  To make an exfoliating mask, add 1 TBSP ground oatmeal (or other gentle exfoliator) to recipe and massage onto skin.  Then allow to dry as you would the mask.

For dry skin, add a small amount of Gifts of the Magi Argan Oil with Frankincense and Myrrh to add extra moisture.

Hair Mask

1 TBSP Rhassoul Clay

1/4 cup distilled water

1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Mix together to make a thin mixture.  For hair, it is important not to let the mixture dry as it can contribute to hair breakage if it hardens. Pour onto hair and massage in while in the shower and leave for only about 30 seconds before rinsing out.
